The PM THE SIDE OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD GAMES ATHENS 2011

Greek Parliament, Prime Minister’s Office, October 6, 2010: Prime Minister George Papandreou admitted in his office at 13:30 the President of the Organizing Committee Special Olympics World Games ATHENS 2011, Mrs Gianna Despotopoulou, which in a private meeting conducted with him, informed him of the preparations for the event and thanked him for the confidence given to it in 1990 when he, as a founding member and Board member of Special Olympics Hellas, mandated with the co-founders of the Administration Agency, with a commitment to disseminate the values and philosophy of the biggest mass movement in the area of intellectual disability in an effective manner throughout the Greek territory.

The Prime Minister congratulated Mrs. Despotopoulou ypereikosaeti for volunteering in the field of integration of people with intellectual disabilities in society activities through sports and assured his support and expressed his belief about the proper conduct of all World Games levels. Following the meeting, the Special Olympics athlete Kostas Tzoumerkas the Flora Vermisoglou athlete and president of Athens 2011 offered the torch of the Games to the Prime Minister and handed a formal invitation to the Games.

As a sign of support for the organization but, at the request of the athletes, the President of the Government, signed the formal application and requested that volunteering at a forthcoming meeting to inform him of the specific volunteer duties during the Games.
Ms Despotopoulou accompanying the creators of the Games Torch Ms. Marianna and Mr. George Papalexis and officials of Athens 2011.

The President thanked the Prime Minister for the excellent price of reserved to accept it with athletes in his office said: “Your support is invaluable and gives a great example for all Greek citizens. As a founding member of the Special Olympics Hellas, you know very well the progress of this movement as well as our great need in 2011 to transfer all Greeks message, to create a society not defined by those who are excluded but those that part. ”
