Emotion AND PRIDE IN OPENING CEREMONY OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS NATIONAL GAMES

Thousands of people came together tonight with the “wonderful world of winners’ at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Panhellenic Games, Special Olympics, which together constitute the test events (test events) for the World Games in June 2011 in Athens.

The event at the Olympic Aquatic Centre Olympic Stadium began at 20.00 in the 2010 parade of athletes, coaches, attendants, from Greece and 21 countries participating in the Test Event. Later, by the Prime Minister and the Government, declared the Games begin, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Minister George Nikitiadis the first official presence, a few days after the inauguration.

The Chairman of Special Olympics Hellas and Athens 2011 Organizing Committee, Gianna Despotopoulou to welcome, among other things stood “… to attempt to create a society inclusive integrate in an effort to make everyday people with intellectual disabilities, sending us all-especially in difficult times we live-an internal message of faith, optimism and hope. The strength, determination and pride that one can see the faces of the athletes participating in competitions, is enough to inspire us all. ”

Messages sent by the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, President of the International Committee of Special Olympics, Tim Sraiver-Kennedy, Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis and the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr.Jerome.

Highlight was the playing of the anthem of the Special Olympics, piano accompaniment by the composer, Stephen Korkolis and an athlete gave his oath: “I want to win! But if not, you help me with courage to try. ”

The opening ceremony which showed George Kapoutzidis and Thalia Prokopiou special interest was the dance event called “Sea Image,” the gymnast Mary Kottis and volunteers from the School of Dance Evangelinou Foka, who has undertaken the artistic director of the ceremony start of the Games of 2011.

Furthermore, we show the relay race 4CH50 and commemorative medals handed the Despotopoulou C., G. Nikitiadis, the Deputy Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion, John Panaretos, the General Secretariat of Sports Panagiotis Bitsaxis, Vice Epiropis International Special Olympics, Lee Todd and the honorary chairman of Special Olympics Hellas, Andreas Potamianos.

The event to brighten the presence of the City of Athens Philharmonic, the Center for Folklore Studies, with 50 members to accompany the flag of the Special Olympics, the Hellenic Navy General Staff with 50 sailors to follow the Greek flag, the runner 50 volunteers who greeted the Flame of Hope, the band percussion P. Kourtis, the N.O. Argyroupolis by demonstrating synchronized swimming and of course the approximately 4,500 spectators were at the Swimming Stadium.

The ceremony ended with the singing Eleanor Zouganeli for «Special Athletes” in the world, Stephen Korkolis accompany the piano in the video dedicated to the Special Olympics.
