Athens 2011 – General Program

From June 24 to July 4, 2011

Special Olympics, the international movement leading sport for persons with intellectual disabilities, invited the world to be part of a global society where the acceptance and inclusion of all people transcend physical boundaries, cultural and geographical.
World Summer Games 2011 Special Olympics unite the world through sports, celebrating the abilities and accomplishments of people with intellectual disabilities, and form a new global vision of acceptance and mutual respect.
Include the diversity of all the capabilities of people around the world and celebrate differences. Through these World Games, Special Olympics athletes transcend the boundaries of geography, nationality, political, philosophical, gender, age, culture and religion. Is the common desire to excel, the shared moment of victory, all offered by even the most different.
The spirit of unity on the playing fields, in families and communities around the world that does build better livelihoods for all.Together we can learn to accept the other, and this will allow us all to contribute to a society and a world in which we all belong.

FUNDACION MAPFRE - II Jornada de Pruebas Motrices Sevilla 2011Dates: June 24 to July 4, 2011

Participants: More than 7,500 athletes from 185 countries, 2,500 coaches, 25,000 volunteers, 3,000 judges and referees, thousands of families, friends, spectators and journalists from every continent.
